Frequently Asked Questions
A tutor can help your child excel in school. Signs your child may need a reading tutor include slipping grades, declining test scores in reading-heavy subjects, procrastination on projects or homework, frequent confusion about concepts, anxiety about tests, or defensiveness when you try to help.
Start by helping your child focus on the task at hand, maybe with a brief chat or some simple problems. Remove any barriers to concentration, like gaps in basic math skills, weak computational abilities, or unfamiliarity with math vocabulary. If your child is focused and understands the basics, provide explanations when necessary, but let them work through problems independently. Always encourage questions along the way.

Progress! Our students make great progress in a short period of time. For example, second graders threatened with retention can make so much progress that they avoid retention and, in fact, excel in third grade. Middle schoolers facing an increase in more complex assignments can strengthen their foundational skills that will help them in high school and beyond. High schoolers who need help with specific subjects – or improved study skills – can begin excelling in class.
Yes! We tutor ADHD students in all areas. Although we don’t diagnose disabilities, we can help students with disabilities make great progress.
We tutor all grades, kindergarten through grade 12, plus adults, in study skills, reading, phonics, spelling, vocabulary, elementary through advanced math, and science, and more.
While your children or their friends can share the same schedule, each will have a personalized lesson plan. We create these plans based on your input and an initial evaluation, updating them as your child progresses. This ensures the best outcome for each student.
We typically recommend at least once a week. During the summer we typically recommend two or more times a week. In general, your schedule helps determine how quickly your child begins excelling in school.
The initial evaluation helps us determine this. It includes various assessments to identify where and why your child is struggling. Based on this, we create a personalized learning plan and a weekly tutoring schedule. With this information, we can estimate the duration of the tutoring program.
Working with a tutor can be beneficial to your child by: strengthening academic skills, mastering new concepts, preparing for an exam, and building crucial study habits for academic success in school and life.
Look for warning signs like difficulty starting tasks, sloppy homework, disorganization, dropping grades, personality changes, low self-esteem, or a lack of interest in learning.
